Amazon warns more than 2000 employees and is likely to lay off some more
More Amazon employees are likely to lose their jobs soon in accordance with the company’s intention to terminate roughly 18,000 workers. According to a Reuters article, the corporation informed 2,300 employees of the layoffs via a new warning notice.
Employees who would be affected by a company’s mass layoffs must be informed 60 days in advance, according to US Labor Law. Reports of layoffs at the company were verified by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy a few days ago. “We intend to cut slightly more than 18,000 roles. The majority of the role eliminations are in our Amazon Stores and PXT organizations, while several teams are affected, he stated in a blog post.
2,300 Amazon workers get a warning letter
People in the US, Canada, and Costa Rica are reportedly affected by the latest round of layoffs. Employees have received a memo. 1,852 individuals in Seattle and 448 in Bellevue and Washington will be let go, according to a notice submitted to the Employment Security Department of Washington state.
A local media report states that the layoffs will start in March of this year and include a 60-day transitional period during which affected employees will get payment but won’t be required to work.
Environment at Amazon India
An Amazon India employee recently spoke about the stressful environment at work after the layoffs started. An employee who used a fictitious name posted the article on Grapevine, a social network for Indian professionals. The worker wrote, “Roughly 75% of my crew is gone. Despite being in the final 25%, I no longer feel inspired to work. In cabins, they are firing people. In the office, there are crying people.
Meanwhile, Harsh, an IIT grad who was also affected by Amazon’s layoffs, published his experience on LinkedIn. Never intended to begin my 2023 with this. But I recently lost my work role as a result of Amazon’s layoffs. I received a BTech in CSE from IIT Mandi, the author stated, adding that this was his first job, which lasted for six months. The recent graduate added that he was nonetheless appreciative of the chance.
Other tech companies are still making cuts.
Given the rapid pace at which layoffs are occurring in the technology sector, the situation for many employees is still dire. Microsoft recently made the surprising decision to terminate 10,000 employees, which surprised everyone. Dunzo and ShareChat, two businesses funded by Google, also recently made their hiring and firing decisions public. In the midst of all of this, Google staff members are concerned as well because the business has started constantly monitoring their performance.
